302th anniversary of the Poltava battle

On June 27, 2011 in town museum SHCR «The Field of the Great Poltava Battle» military-history festival “The Great Poltava Battle-2011” took place.
Historical museum of the Poltava battle extended its working hours from 9 am till 8 pm. 485 persons visited it in total. Guests of the event not only listened to excursions but also participated in thematic competition “Ukraine, Russia, and Sweden at historical crossing”. Workers of museum waited for them in three exhibition halls, they were dressed in national Ukrainian, Russian and Swedish costumes and introduced visitors with specially prepared exhibition historical materials of countries-members of the Poltava battle. Questions of quiz, devoted to these countries and theirs membership in the Poltava battle, were interesting. Winners got presents (tickets for free visit of museum during a month, collections of materials of international scientific conference, which was part of commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Poltava battle, booklets of Poltava museums, disks with films about touristic Poltava).
The chapel of Sts. Peter and Paul at common grave of Russian soldiers was opened for visitors on that day; photo-exhibition took place, things from museum funds were exhibited, recorded story about building and functioning of the chapel was sounded.
Small town of craftsmasters was constructed at museum building and nearit. Embroidered shirts and souvenirs, candles- averters and things from beads, tapestries and books of Poltava publishers caused admiration of visitors. Tent of smiths, making different products in front of audience, master-class of making doll reeled given by folk craftsmaster Nataliya Svyrydyuk and modeling by clay conducted by museum scientific assistant Ivan Okara took attention of guests.
Members of folklore-ethnographic group "Yakivchanski vytivky" (art director Aleksey Mechanic), national amateur violin group "Academ" (conducter Olexandr Ayuramov) pleased audience by their art. Show of military club “Warrior” (chief manager Oleg Barysh) and club of historical modeling “The Slavs” (chief manager Sergiy Pasko) presented fragment of the battle and elements of military arts with fire show accompanied by group “Live drums” of children school №1 (conductor Yevgen Dudnik) caused real admiration.
Every half an hour memory of fallen in the Poltava battle honored at rotunda by changing of guard.
During the event, awards were given to participants of quest “The Battle at Poltava”, part of game project “Dozor”, which started on that day at 16.30 pm from monument of Glory in the center of the city.
More than one thousand Poltavites and guests of the city visited the event in total.
